Meet

The Forever Kid.

I am Robert Skollar, The Forever Kid.

Born : Da Bronx, New York while Harry Truman was president.

Parents:  Jean & Bill. Amazing, loving, inspirational, funny, hard working.
Owned and worked in their floor covering store, linoleum, carpeting, tiles.

Older Sister: Ellen. Perhaps the sweetest human being on the planet.

School: Not my thing. Greatly preferred the New York Yankees, playing stickball and chasing girls.
Always labeled an “underachiever” -  remarkably high I.Q.; pitifully low grades.
Shockingly got accepted into the prestigious Bronx High School of Science .
Somehow graduated. Rejected by some 30+ colleges.

Wound up at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.
Youngest student in school (still 16); only kid from NYC; one of about 10 Jews.
Majored in English & Psychology (and Partying).
In an homage to “Animal House”, placed on both “Academic and Double Social Probation”.
Somehow graduated. Went to Michigan State University for a Masters in Communications.

C.O.: Was subject to Selective System Draft (#156).
By what I still believe was “divine intervention, was miraculously granted Conscientious Objector status.
Performed my “alternative service” working for an East Harlem community program for 2 years.

Married: After 10 years of dating, married my college girlfriend, Marcia Shumaker of Detroit, Michigan…
on April Fool’s Day.

Job Search:  Like my college application experience, was rejected by some 50+ ad agencies.
Finally got hired at Warwick, Welsh & Miller.
Couldn’t believe that someone was actually paying me to come up with ideas.
After a year and a half, wanted to experience a large agency.

GREY: Went to Grey Advertising (at the time, largest agency in NY).
Climbed the ladder from Jr. Copywriter to Managing Partner.
LOVED my job.
Worked on every type of account….Panasonic, Kool Aid, Dominos, Grape Nuts, Twix,
Jockey Underwear, Hasbro, Clairol, New York Lottery, Major League Baseball and countless others.

My Kids: In 1982, was blessed with my daughter Danielle and 3 1/2 years later, my son Adam.
My greatest achievements in life. They remain my best friends.

Post-GREY: Left Grey after 29 years . People asked me what would I do now?
Not a golfer, nor a skier, I’m a writer. So I write.
Several magazine pieces and five (never-to-be-sold) screenplays.
And now, I write about me,
The Forever Kid.

Any questions?
